304 Stainless Steel Sheets Introduction
304 stainless steel material is the most popular steel grade among stainless steel materials. It is named as ASTM 304 stainless steel which is under the American producting standard. It is also known as SUS 304 which is under Japanese standard. In China, 304 stainless steel is named as 06Cr19Ni10 which indicated the important chemical elements contained in the material. No matter which name is used for 304 stainless steel, there are two significant keys to determine if the steel material is 304.
These two important chemical elements inside stainless steel 304 is Cr and Ni. In the steel industry, if the material contains more than 18% Cr and 8% Ni with less than 0.08 Cabron, this material could be considered as 304 stainless steel material. Different standards share a little bit differences of the exact chemical components in the material. There is a chart below for requirments based on different standards.
